Dealing with the Pollution Challenge of Africa’s Moto Taxis

Motobike Taxis – Douala Cameroon

Low cost motorbikes from China coupled with flexible micro finance, has stimulated a huge growth in Moto Taxis in Africa. They buzz angrily through city streets in large swarms of 20+ machines belching blue smoke pollutants into the atmosphere, enabling you to take your life in your hands and travel from one side of a city to the other for less than 50 pence.

Now in Rwanda, authorities are planning to convert at least half the country’s motorcycle taxis by 2026, though a scheme which offers finance for new machines and conversion for existing bikes leading to cleaner air and quieter roads for the nation. Congratulations to them for this innovative scheme
